Crowns

Once fillings no longer do the job, a crown is usually the next solution.  We stay on top of fast developing crown technologies, techniques, and labs, and provide the best solution.

As fillings grow and the amount of tooth shrinks, the quality of restoration provided by a filling becomes less dependable.  Eventually the level of benefit provided by a filling as the filling grows begins to shrink, and the benefit from a crown grows.  The crown is a preferred restoration when necessary, and it provides a significantly higher level of precision, control and durability.

Crowns can be made from a variety of materials coming from various places (the US, Europe, China), from discount factories and from the highest quality leaders.  Through my research and experience, I’ve narrowed my repertoire to the materials I find best looking, most comfortable, and best lasting.

The world of crowns has undergone a dramatic transformation in the past generation.  There are now a variety of new materials, designs, techniques, providers and labs producing crowns of various qualities and success rates.  I make it a point to keep abreast of the latest science and providers in the field, and have had excellent results for both new crown recipients and those with problems, in need of replacement.

Custom Mouth Guard

Sport Mouth-Guards

Professionally made mouth-guards protect athletes from a variety of injuries.  ProForm provides many advantages over boil-and-bite types.

Laboratory processed professional grade mouth-guards are prescribed for both professional and amateur athletes because they offer protection, retention, comfort and fit, without interfering with speech or breathing during play.

ProForm has the advantage over boil-and-bite types of mouth-guards because of their superior fit and retention. In addition, ProForm mouth-guards are thin, comfortable, custom fitted and will retain their shape long after other mouth-guards have worn out.

ProForm sports mouth-guards reduce the incidence of tooth breakage by distributing the stress of impact to the entire length of the tooth. This feature is provided by a double layer of laminated sheet vinyl with a lingual plate embedded behind the incisors. Tensile strength, softness, compression percentage and uniform density are all important characteristics of mouth-guard materials. ProForm maintains these characteristics using a heat/pressure laminating process. Tensile strength of the laminate is excellent due to the laminate’s two layers of materials making up the mouth-guard. Density is maintained at the pressure laminating process so shrinkage of the mouth-guard is uniformly controlled.

Dentures

Greatly improved comfort and appearance are the reasons we prefer flexible metal-free partial dentures.

They’re light, flexible plastic that fits comfortably over your teeth and gums. They blend in with your gums and eliminate the metallic taste of metal partials and there are no unsightly clasps. They’re bio compatible (hypoallergenic) and manufactured from FDA grade plastics. Decades of research and development have made flexible partials the quality product they are today, enjoyed by satisfied patients throughout the world.

Extractions and Implants

Dental implants are now the way to replace teeth more securely, comfortably, and permanently than ever.

You used to have three choices when missing a tooth:

  1. live without
  2. install a bridge where you grind down the neighboring teeth, create crowns for each, with an intermedial pontic (the bridge)
  3. do a partial denture, which is removable, has clasps and sits on your gums and comes with all the management issues of dentures.

But now, we can recommend dental implants, a surgically implanted titanium fixture (analogous to a shoulder or hip implant), with a crown which sits on the post and performs similarly to a natural tooth.  The benefits are that you don’t have to place crowns on neighboring teeth, you don’t have the potential for decay with a partial dentures, and they are not subject to the forms of decay to which natural teeth succumb.

Dental Exam

Gum Therapies

We have a thorough process for evaluating and treating gum conditions which are painless, comprehensive, and highly effective.

A typical, normal healthy tooth sulcus is less than 3 millimeters in depth.  Once larger than that, it’s called a pocket, which becomes a breeding spot for disease-causing bacteria which cause inflammation, bone loss, periodontitis, and general health degradation.

DIAGNOSIS:  We thoroughly check your mouth for any sites of chronic inflammation.

INITIAL THERAPY: When necessary, we do initial therapies (deep cleaning scaling and root-planing).

RE-EVALUATION:  After a month or two, we re-evaluate to see if further in-office therapy is needed.  In cases of more advanced periodontal disease we refer to the leading periodontists in the area.

Our office in Branchburg has extremely new and modern equipment to make treatment fast and easy. Our Branchburg office is brand new and can help solve all of your dental needs.

Oral Cancer Screening

Regular oral cancer screening by a dentist is painless and critical to improving treatment success.

As part of your routine dental exam, I conduct an oral cancer screening exam.  I feel for any lumps or irregular tissue changes in your neck, head, face, and oral cavity. When examining your mouth, I look for any sores or discolored tissue as well as check for any signs and symptoms mentioned above.

If I discover tissue in your mouth that looks suspicious, I typically perform an oral brush biopsy. This test is painless and involves taking a small sample of the tissue and analyzing it for abnormal cells. Alternatively, if the tissue looks more suspicious, I recommend other tests to detect oral cancer early, before it has a chance to progress and spread.

Even though you may be conducting frequent self-exams, sometimes dangerous spots or sores in the mouth can be very tiny and difficult to see on your own. The American Cancer Society recommends oral cancer screening exams every 3 years for persons over age 20 and annually for those over age 40. Early detection is critical to improving the rate of successful treatment.

Preventative Care

Preventative care and regular maintenance are the easiest, most comfortable, and least costly way of maintaining your teeth.  We use the latest, healthiest techniques.

X-RAYS and CLEANINGS are the most common preventative dental techniques and are key parts of regular dental maintenance.  We provide DIGITAL X-RAYS which use FAR LESS RADIATION than typical film x-rays.

FLUORIDE makes your teeth more acid resistant, which is why fluoride is added to public drinking water supplies, in toothpaste, and we provide it via in-office gel treatments.

SEALANTS: Rear molars have nooks and crannies, which sometimes harbor anaerobic bacteria which produce lactic acid, which causes cavities.  Sealants can fill those nooks and crannies, and prevent cavities by denying environments for bacteria.

Perfect Veneer

Veneers and Cosmetic Bonding

Bonding repairs and restores unsightly tooth surfaces, defects, and appearance.

Bonding is a technique of adhering to a tooth (typically) composite resin or porcelain.  There are different types of bites, where teeth have different layouts and qualities.  Bonding can straighten crooked teeth, remove gaps, and cover unsightly problems.

The benefits of COMPOSITE RESIN bonding are

  • One visit, immediate results
  • Often requires no anesthesia
  • Great for fixing isolated problems: one space, chip, or tooth.

Benefits of PORCELAIN Bonding

  • Provides the truest tooth-like resemblance in color match, surface qualities, and most precision reproduction.
  • Color and gloss will never degrade.
  • Better for more extensive repair and restoration work.

Root Canals

Root Canals provide pain relief, eliminate infection, and maintain the function of the tooth.

Teeth are formed from living tissue which persists within the tooth, including blood vessels and nerve, but which provide no ongoing role in the function of the tooth.  When those tissues develop infections untreatable by other means, they need to be removed to eliminate infection.

Anti-Snoring

We make effective anti-snoring devices for patients who suffer from snoring and sleep apnea, which are far more common and dangerous health threats than previously recognized.

Snoring and related sleep apnea have in recent years been discovered to be far more common and far more dangerous health problems than previously recognized.

Snoring is the vibration of the soft tissues of tongue and soft palate blocking breathing.  The key to reducing snoring is opening the airway, and the easiest means of this is moving the tongue forward, typically via pulling the jaw forward.

We make custom ANTERIOR POSITIONING DEVICES for patients in our offices, which control snoring by positioning the jaw forward.  We recommend patients see an ear, nose, and throat doctor for a complete evaluation and sleep study.

Tooth Restoration

I’m an expert — and artist — in restoring teeth to their most natural appearance, replacing fillings, filling recessions with white composite resin.

White composite resin looks like your teeth, and is the most flexible, attractive and frequently chosen material with which we restore teeth, fill in recessions, and replace mercury silver amalgams, over which they have various benefits.

I enjoy restoring teeth using composite resin materials, an area in which I really excel.  I focus on one patient at a time, in an unrushed process, where I get to be as meticulous as I want and express my artistic flair for creating truly natural, beautiful, solid, dependable work – I guarantee it.

Teeth Whitening Kit

Whitening

In one visit of 90 minutes, followed up with an at home custom bleaching maintenance kit, get the same result it would otherwise take you weeks using over-the-counter techniques.

Teeth develop naturally in a variety of shades, or can be significantly stained via external sources such as tetracycline.  There are a variety of techniques for whitening teeth with different looks, effects, and duration.  Teeth yellowed from staining by food, coffee, and smoking can be restored to their original tooth color by bleaching. Teeth which seem dark and greyish can naturally be only slightly lightened.  There are really only hydrogen peroxide based bleaches:  either clinical, take home or over the counter strengths. Ultimately they all have the same effects.

At clinical strengths you’ll get the same result you might have using at-home techniques, but in one visit of 90 minutes, followed up with an at home custom bleaching maintenance kit.  We also have two week procedures for you to use at home, and then we can recommend over the counter products as well, which take longer.
